The Ancestors Curriculum has 2 core components: Untold Histories and Genealogy Research
Untold Histories
History lessons and assessments are about the lesser known people and events of world history, with a particular focus on the stories of historically marginalized groups.
Genealogy Research
A scientific process of investigation, evidence collection, historical research, and proving lineage, genealogy research is an exercise that is both academic and empowering. The research experience poses a groundbreaking approach to a young person's skill-building and positive identity development.
Students begin their family history projects with the side of the family or individual of their choosing. Lessons equip students with the skills to interview family members, collect artifacts, conduct (primarily internet-based) archival research, and build a family tree.
Volunteer genealogists are invited to contribute to the student projects by completing research requests, which are student-initiated inquiries. Volunteer contributions may require online or local library/archive research. Volunteers are encouraged to research as many requests as they'd like.
